Name the value of digits in decimals

3-5, 6-8Percent accuracyTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who read decimals as whole numbers (0.45 as forty-five) or think 0.5 is smaller than 0.45. Present levels in whole-number place value and in naming decimals from models decide readiness.

Baseline
Include digits to the left and right of the decimal point and decimals with zeros (3.05, 0.407). Note tens and tenths confusion separately from position errors.
Tips
Accept the value written as a decimal (0.07) or a fraction (7/100). Pair with comparing decimals (ma-ns-019) when that is also a need.
Limits
Naming values does not guarantee correct comparison or computation. Students may succeed on the chart and still misread decimals in context.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given 10 decimals to the thousandths with one digit underlined in each, the student will write the place name and the value of each underlined digit independently with at least 90% accuracy on digit values, on 3 of 4 consecutive weekly probes, as measured by work-sample analysis collected weekly.

Baseline: 35% accuracy.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Work-sample analysis gives percent accuracy data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Number Sense.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?

Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.
