Spread food on bread with a knife
When to use this goal
For students who use a fork and spoon but need an adult to spread condiments, butter or spreads, which limits lunch choices and simple meal prep. Observed attempts decide fit.
- Baseline
- Offer five spreads and score each as covered and not torn, torn, or adult spread. Softened spreads and sturdy bread make early practice easier.
- Tips
- Spreading links mealtime and simple meal prep. Use foods the student will really eat. Pair with cooking goals in daily living.
- Limits
- Food textures, liquid thickness, positioning for safe swallowing and any swallowing precautions come from the student's feeding or swallowing plan, which this goal never changes. Foods must fit the plan and allergies. The goal does not cover knife cutting.
