Peel and place sticky notes while reading

3-5, 6-8OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who tear, crumple, or cannot separate sticky notes, so they skip annotation tasks or rely on peers. Fit depends on observation during reading or research tasks, not grade.

Baseline
Score six peels during a reading task: one note peeled and placed flat, torn, or several stuck together. Note the brand; some pads are much stickier.
Tips
Fanning the corner of the pad is an easy fix that students can learn to do themselves. Annotation goals in reading depend on this skill; coordinate with the teacher.
Limits
Does not measure what the student writes on the note. Digital annotation is a fine alternative for some students.

Criterion

Number of opportunities in which the behavior is demonstrated, out of a fixed number.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Data collection

Each planned or naturally occurring opportunity is recorded as correct/independent, prompted, or not demonstrated.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during a reading lesson that asks students to mark pages with sticky notes, the student will peel one sticky note from the pad and press it flat on the page next to the line independently in at least 5 of 6 trials, across 3 consecutive weekly sessions, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly during reading or research.

Baseline: 2 of 6 opportunities.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Fine Motor Skills.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?

Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.
