Take part in music class with ear protection

K-2, 3-5DurationTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who miss music class or leave early because of loud instruments and singing, and who want to join with ear protection. Present levels and the student's choice decide fit.

Baseline
Record minutes in music across a few classes and which parts are hardest (drums, recorder, loud songs). The music teacher can often swap or soften the hardest parts.
Tips
Singing quietly, listening or playing a soft instrument all count. Ear protection is welcome for the whole year if the student wants it.
Limits
Duration does not show distress; watch for it and honor breaks. Some sounds may stay too much, and that is acceptable.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during music class, with earmuffs or earplugs and a seat at the edge of the group, the student will use ear protection and remain with the music group, singing, playing or listening in their own way with no adult prompts for at least 25 minutes, on 3 of 4 observed music classes, as measured by duration recording collected at each music class.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Duration fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Duration recording gives duration data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Sensory Processing & Regulation.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
