Retell a story with all story grammar parts
When to use this goal
For upper-elementary students whose retells list events but skip the parts that make a story hang together: the character's goal, attempts, and reactions. A story grammar rubric scores those parts. Present levels decide the passage level.
- Baseline
- Record retells and score from the recording. Note which parts are missing; goal and reaction are the most often skipped. Accept retell in any language.
- Tips
- Deeper than the core 5-element retell. SLPs often score the same retells for narrative language goals; share recordings.
- Limits
- Retell depends on expressive language; separate that need if it is the main barrier.
