Write and answer a question for each section
When to use this goal
For upper-elementary students who read through informational text without checking what they learned. Writing a question about each section and answering it is a self-check that also prepares for tests. Present levels decide the text level.
- Baseline
- Count a section correct when the question is about the main point (not a tiny detail) and the answer is right.
- Tips
- Heading-to-question is the easiest form; move to main-point questions. Students can quiz a partner with their questions.
- Limits
- Question quality is a judgment call; agree on what counts as the main point for each section before scoring.

- Record up to 4 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
