Preview a textbook chapter and predict
When to use this goal
For middle school students who start reading a chapter cold and miss its organization. Previewing headings, pictures, and the summary sets up what to look for. Present levels decide the text level.
- Baseline
- Count a preview correct when the topic and subtopics match the chapter. Note whether the student looks at features or only the title.
- Tips
- Pairs with the textbook routine template. Quick enough to use every chapter.
- Limits
- Previewing is a strategy; check later comprehension separately.

- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
