Use course terms in written work
When to use this goal
For high school students who know course terms on a quiz but fall back on everyday words in written work (the stuff that makes it dissolve). Fit depends on present levels in writing and the content course.
- Baseline
- Score two or three recent pieces of course work. Separate using a term from using it correctly; some students drop terms in without meaning.
- Tips
- Coordinate with the content teacher on which terms count. The goal links vocabulary to the writing the course actually grades.
- Limits
- The rubric counts terms, not the quality of the science or history reasoning.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, given a lab report or short-response task in a science or social studies course where 6 key terms were taught, the student will write the response using taught course terms in place of everyday words where they fit independently, earning a score of at least 6 out of 8 on a 2-row course vocabulary rubric scored 0 to 4 per row, on 3 of 4 consecutive scored responses, as measured by a defined scoring rubric collected every two weeks.
