Message the counselor to set up a check-in
When to use this goal
For older students who wait until a crisis to see a counselor, or who only go when an adult sends them. Present levels and counselor records decide fit. The goal builds the adult habit of scheduling support before stress builds.
- Baseline
- Review the past semester's counselor contacts: who started each one, and whether it came before or after a crisis. During advisory, ask the student to rate weekly stress; ratings at the top of their scale that week are the opportunities. Check that the student knows how the request system works.
- Tips
- Score an opportunity as met when a complete request reaches the counselor within the school day of the high stress rating or concern. The reason can be as general as "stress"; privacy matters. The counselor should answer every request.
- Limits
- The goal counts requests, not whether the meeting helped. Urgent safety concerns go straight to an adult and the school's crisis process, never to a scheduled message.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, when they want support with stress, a conflict, or a problem outside class, using the school's counselor request form, email, or messaging system, the student will send the counselor a request that says they would like to meet, gives a general reason, and lists times they are free independently in at least 3 of 4 opportunities, across 2 consecutive grading periods, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly during advisory review.

- Record up to 4 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
