Use two-person outdoor equipment with a peer

PK, K-2DurationTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For young students who play outdoors only alone. Two-person equipment (a seesaw, a wagon, a tire swing, a ball to roll back and forth) builds in a partner. Base the choice on playground observation and motor skills; check with the PT or OT before choosing equipment.

Baseline
Observe three outdoor times and time any play with a peer on shared equipment. Note which equipment drew interest and which peers joined. Check safety and positioning needs with the PT.
Tips
Time from the start of shared use to when either child stops for 30 seconds or leaves. Choose equipment the student likes. Rotate peers so the student plays with several children.
Limits
Duration depends on the peer and the equipment. Some equipment is not safe for all students; follow PT advice. The goal does not measure talk during play.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during outdoor play with a peer at two-person equipment (such as a seesaw, a wagon, a tire swing, a big ball), the student will play with a peer on two-person equipment (such as pulling the peer in the wagon or rolling the ball back and forth) independently for at least 5 minutes, across 3 consecutive observed outdoor sessions, as measured by duration recording collected twice weekly.

Baseline: 1 minutes.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Duration fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Duration recording gives duration data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Play & Social Participation.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
