Present their own present levels at the IEP meeting
When to use this goal
For students who already attend their IEP meeting and are ready for a larger part than introductions. Present levels, the student's comfort with the team, and their communication mode, not grade, decide fit. The student can present from notes, slides, a recording, or a device.
- Baseline
- During a rehearsal, ask the student to tell the case manager how they are doing in each goal area. Score with the rubric. Record whether the student can find their own data in progress reports or graphs.
- Tips
- Help the student gather their own data in advance. Let them decide what to say about each area, and agree beforehand how adults will add information. Score rehearsals as practice data and the meeting itself as the final check.
- Limits
- There is one annual meeting a year, so most data come from rehearsals. A meeting can be stressful; a strong rehearsal followed by a shorter meeting turn is still progress. Adults remain responsible for the content of the IEP.
