Lead a home practice session for the sound
When to use this goal
For students who know their target sound, its placement cue, and how to judge it, and who can run their own practice at home with a family member as the listener. Leading the session moves responsibility from the SLP to the student. Base the choice on self-rating data (sl-art-053) and the family's interest.
- Baseline
- Have the student run a short practice session with the SLP as the listener and score each row. Talk with the family about who can listen and how often; a weekly session is enough for this goal.
- Tips
- Score each row from 0 (not done) to 3 (done fully without reminders). The family member's job is to listen and agree or disagree with the student's score, not to teach. A recording or a short note from home is enough evidence. This goal fits students moving toward dismissal.
- Limits
- Scores how well the student runs practice, not their speech accuracy; keep a production measure too. Depends on a willing listener at home; a peer or school staff member can stand in.
