Voice the middle "th" in mother and feather
When to use this goal
For students who say /d/ or /v/ for voiced "th" in the middle of words (mother, feather, weather, brother) when that is not part of their dialect. Base the choice on a probe of medial "th" words and a dialect check.
- Baseline
- Probe medial voiced "th" in 20 words and note the substitution. /v/ for medial "th" ("bruvver") is a regular feature of some English dialects; ask the family before targeting it.
- Tips
- Score the medial "th" only. Initial voiced "th" in function words is a separate target (sl-art-047).
- Limits
- Not appropriate where the pattern is part of the student's dialect. Accuracy in single words does not show carryover into sentences.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
