Teach a classmate a fact from the lesson
When to use this goal
For students who can answer questions about a lesson but cannot explain what they learned in their own words to someone else. Teaching a peer (turn-and-talk, partner share) is a daily classroom speaking demand. Base the choice on class observation and the SLP's assessment.
- Baseline
- After three content lessons, listen to the student's partner share (or ask for one in therapy) and score each with the rubric. Check with the teacher what the main idea of each lesson was, so scoring matches class expectations.
- Tips
- Score each row 0 (missing), 1 (partly), or 2 (clear). Push-in data during real turn-and-talk is the best measure. Teach the teach-back card to the class so it is a normal tool, not a special one.
- Limits
- Lesson content varies in difficulty; note the topic with each probe. The goal does not measure note-taking or written summaries. A student who did not grasp the lesson will score low for content reasons.
