Deliver an oral presentation using a speaking plan made with the SLP
When to use this goal
For students who stutter and face required presentations, and who want a plan for getting through them on their own terms (strategies, pauses, disclosure, and chosen accommodations). Base the choice on the student's preferences. A plan may include presenting to a smaller group; the student decides.
- Baseline
- Score a recent presentation or a rehearsal with the rubric. Ask the student what they dread most about presenting and what has helped before. Find out from teachers how many presentations are coming so the plan is practical.
- Tips
- Score each row 0 to 2 from observation and the student's plan. Stuttering during the presentation does not lower any row. The plan is the student's: it may include telling the class they stutter, asking for no interruptions, or presenting to a smaller group, and those choices score as complete when followed. Rehearsals provide most data points.
- Limits
- Real presentations are infrequent, so most data come from rehearsals. The rubric scores following the plan, not fluency or presentation quality. Strategy use, communication attitudes, and participation are the targets chosen with the student.
