Answer questions about a short science video
When to use this goal
For early elementary students who watch class videos but recall little of the information. Short informational clips are common in K-2 and 3-5 science and social studies. Base the choice on comprehension checks after class videos.
- Baseline
- Show two or three clips of similar length with 5 questions each and record answers. Note whether errors are on facts that were shown, facts that were only spoken, or both; a student who misses spoken-only facts relies on the visuals.
- Tips
- Include at least two questions per clip that can only be answered from the narration. Accept answers in any mode or language. Pick clips with clear narration and turn captions on if the student uses them.
- Limits
- Background knowledge matters; use clips within units the class is studying. Picture choices raise chance scores; report which support was used.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, after watching a 2- to 3-minute informational video clip from the class science or social studies unit, the student will answer spoken questions about facts from the video independently with at least 80% accuracy on video comprehension questions, across 3 consecutive therapy sessions, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected during each therapy session.
Baseline: 40% accuracy.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives percent accuracy data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Listening Comprehension & Auditory Processing.
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
Short-term objectives (optional)
When are objectives required?Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
