When to use this goal

For middle school students with motor speech needs who give presentations or read reports aloud in class. Present levels decide fit. Strategies include rate, phrasing, breath, and visuals that carry key words.

Baseline
Score one practice presentation and, if possible, one real class presentation. Ask two classmates to tell the main points afterward as a listener check.
Tips
Plan with the teacher: presentation dates, length, and whether slides can carry key words. The student chooses which strategies to use. Grades for content stay with the teacher; this rubric scores speech only.
Limits
Presentations are infrequent, so data build slowly. Nerves can affect speech; practice reduces this. Not a public speaking or content goal.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during a 2- to 4-minute class presentation the student has practiced at least twice with the SLP, the student will give the presentation using planned speech strategies (slow rate, phrase pauses, breaths at breaks) and slides or cards that show key words independently, earning a score of at least 10 out of 12 on a 4-row presentation speech rubric scored 0 to 3 per row, in 3 of 4 scored presentations, as measured by a defined scoring rubric collected at each scheduled class presentation.
