Fit the talk within the time limit

9-12DurationTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For high school students whose presentations run far past the time limit because they add every detail, lose points on time, or get cut off before the conclusion. Present levels and timed presentations, not grade, decide fit.

Baseline
Time two presentations from the first word to the last and note where the time went: long openings, side stories, or too many points. That tells you whether to teach cutting content or pacing.
Tips
Time the whole talk and set the target at the actual limit. Mark optional details on the notes in another color so the student can skip them without losing their place. A talk that ends early with all points covered also meets the goal.
Limits
Fitting the time can push a student to rush; check pace with a rubric. Does not measure the content of what was kept or cut.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, when giving a class presentation with a five-minute time limit, the student will deliver the whole presentation, including the conclusion, cutting extra detail to stay in time independently within 5 minutes, on 3 of 4 consecutive timed presentations, as measured by duration recording collected every two weeks.

Baseline: 9 minutes.
