Explain a unit concept using taught terms
When to use this goal
For high school students who can define unit words in isolation but explain concepts in vague everyday language in class and on oral assessments. The goal measures whether they use the right terms, correctly and in connection, when explaining. Base the choice on content-class work and teacher input.
- Baseline
- Record two short explanations on different concepts and score them with the content teacher. Note which terms the student avoids and which they use correctly.
- Tips
- Score each explanation on the four rows. Agree with the content teacher on the key terms for each concept. Spoken explanations count; written ones can be scored with the same rubric if the team adds a writing goal.
- Limits
- Concepts vary in difficulty. Rubric scoring takes practice; two scorers should check agreement early in the year.
