Judge own productions as nasal or oral
When to use this goal
For students whose resonance plan targets hypernasal speech or nasal air escape, or hyponasal (blocked-sounding) speech, and who cannot yet tell when their own productions sound nasal or oral. The team begins resonance therapy only after a medical and instrumental evaluation (such as by a cleft palate or craniofacial team) shows behavioral therapy can help. Present levels and that team's plan, not grade, decide fit.
- Baseline
- Record 20 of the student's productions and have the SLP judge each first. Then ask the student to judge each without feedback and count agreements. Check whether the student can tell nasal from oral in the SLP's speech; if not, start there.
- Tips
- Each production is one item; score it correct when the student's judgment matches the SLP's. Self-judgment is the base for carryover, since the student must notice nasal productions to change them. Use only feedback tools the craniofacial team and SLP have chosen. Pair with a production goal such as oral airflow on pressure sounds.
- Limits
- Therapy cannot change resonance caused by a structural gap; that needs medical management, so this goal depends on the team's findings. Listening judgments of resonance are subjective and vary between listeners. The template does not replace instrumental measures such as nasometry or nasendoscopy.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, after saying 20 words with pressure sounds (such as p, b, s, and sh) and listening back to a recording of each, the student will judge each of their own productions as nasal or oral and give the judgment that matches the SLP's independently with at least 85% accuracy on own productions judged in agreement with the SLP, in 3 of 4 consecutive weekly probes, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly.
Baseline: 50% accuracy.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives percent accuracy data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Voice.
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
Short-term objectives (optional)
When are objectives required?Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
