Define hourly pay, overtime and tips
When to use this goal
For students who are about to start a first job or a paid work experience and confuse the ways workers are paid. Present levels in reading and math vocabulary, not grade, decide fit.
- Baseline
- Give the word set without the card and record which words the student explains correctly. Note whether errors are about the word itself or about reading the situation.
- Tips
- Teach with jobs the student has seen or wants. Once these words are solid, move to reading a real pay stub in personal finance goals. Keep the language plain and check the student can use each word in a sentence about a job.
- Limits
- Covers pay vocabulary only; calculating pay and checking a stub are personal finance and math goals. Overtime and tip rules vary by job and place, so teach the general idea, not legal rules.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, given 10 pay words (hourly wage, salary, overtime, tips, pay period, payday, direct deposit) used in short job situations, the student will tell what each pay word means in the situation and give an example from a job independently with at least 80% accuracy on pay word items, in 3 of 4 consecutive weekly probes, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly.
Baseline: 30% accuracy.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives percent accuracy data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Employment Foundations.
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
