Give a short personal pitch to an employer
When to use this goal
For students who freeze at the opening question (Tell me about yourself) or answer with their life story. Present levels in expressive language and the SLP's input decide whether the pitch is spoken, read from a card or played from a device.
- Baseline
- Score the first response to the question with no preparation, then after a pitch is written. Timing the response helps; very short and very long answers are both common.
- Tips
- Write the pitch with the student in their own words and update it as experiences grow. The pitch is used in interviews (fn-tr-010), career fairs (tn-ce-021) and walk-in inquiries (tn-js-025). Speech, a device or a card all count.
- Limits
- A memorized pitch can sound flat; the rubric does not score delivery style. Practice with unfamiliar adults for a realistic measure.
