Compare prices for one item across stores
When to use this goal
For students planning a larger purchase (headphones, a work bag, a phone case) who buy at the first store they see. Needs searching store sites or apps and adding shipping and tax; present levels decide fit, not grade.
- Baseline
- Give 2 or 3 short probes with real-looking documents at the student's reading level, allowing the calculator the student will use as an adult. Score each item right or wrong and note the error type (reading the document, choosing the operation, or calculation). Score each store total and the final choice.
- Tips
- Let the student pick the item; it keeps the task real. Add return policy as a row for older students.
- Limits
- Teaches a money skill; it does not recommend accounts, products, or financial choices, which belong to the student and family. Prices change daily, so live searches give different answers each probe.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, given an item the student wants and 3 store websites or apps, with a comparison chart and a phone calculator, the student will record the total cost at each store and choose the lowest total independently with at least 85% accuracy on store totals and comparisons, in 3 of 4 consecutive biweekly probes, as measured by work-sample analysis collected every two weeks.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
