Answer the lesson question on an exit ticket
When to use this goal
For students who follow content lessons but turn in blank or one-word exit tickets, so teachers cannot see what they learned. Present levels should show the student can write a sentence; the target is a short, complete written answer in the last minutes of class.
- Baseline
- Collect ten exit tickets over two weeks and count those with a complete-sentence answer that is accurate to the lesson. Note blank, one-word, and inaccurate answers separately. Inaccurate answers point to content, not writing.
- Tips
- Exit tickets are already part of many lessons, so this goal adds little work. Agree with content teachers on a simple scoring rule and a folder for tickets. Students who struggle with transcription can dictate or use speech-to-text.
- Limits
- Five minutes at the end of a lesson can be lost to transitions; note when time was cut. Accuracy depends on the lesson content. Short answers do not show extended writing.

- Record up to 10 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
