Post to an online class discussion and reply
When to use this goal
For high school students in courses with online discussion boards, including hybrid and online classes, who post late, post one line, or never reply to peers. Present levels should show the student can write a paragraph; the target is the post-and-reply pattern these courses grade.
- Baseline
- Score four weeks of discussion posts from the course, each row 0 to 3. Note whether the original post or the replies are the bigger gap. The course gradebook may already hold this data.
- Tips
- Online and dual-enrollment courses rely on discussion boards, so this goal prepares students for college coursework. Coordinate with the course instructor on access to posts. Replies that build on others are a writing skill and a social skill; model a few.
- Limits
- The timeliness row also reflects planning, not only writing. Courses differ in how they set up discussions. The rubric does not score conventions.
