Accept or reject grammar checker suggestions

6-8, 9-12Percent accuracyTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students who accept every grammar checker suggestion (sometimes making the sentence worse) or ignore all of them. Present levels should show typed drafts with the checker on; the target is judging each suggestion.

Baseline
Save the draft before and after editing and list each suggestion with the student's choice. Score correct when the choice matches a teacher's judgment of whether the suggestion was right. Practice drafts make this easier to score.
Tips
Grammar checkers are fair tools; judging them is the skill. Collect examples where the checker was wrong to show the student. Pair with the spell-check suggestion goal.
Limits
Checkers differ in what they flag. Teacher judgment of suggestions can vary; agree on a key. The goal does not cover errors the checker misses.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, when editing a typed draft with the grammar checker turned on, the student will read each flagged sentence with and without the suggestion, accept suggestions that fix a real error, and reject ones that change the intended meaning independently with at least 85% accuracy on grammar checker suggestions, on 3 of 4 consecutive scored drafts, as measured by work-sample analysis collected every two weeks.
