Check-in/check-out
Last updated
Check-in/check-out is a Tier 2 behavior support in which a student meets an adult each morning and afternoon and gets feedback on a daily point card.
Topic: Behavior and FBA/BIP
In plain terms
In the morning, the student checks in with a mentor, reviews goals and picks up a point card. Teachers rate the student on a few expectations during each class, and in the afternoon the student checks out, reviews points and sometimes earns a reward. A copy may go home. It works best for students whose behavior is maintained by adult attention.
How it shows up in an IEP
A daily point card can double as data for a behavior goal: "will earn 80% of possible points on 4 of 5 days." The card's expectations should match the goal's wording.
Example
A sixth grader checks in with the counselor each morning. Teachers rate "on time, prepared, on task" from 0 to 2 each period, and the student averages 82% after a month.
