Pre-employment transition services

Last updated

Pre-employment transition services are early career services, offered through vocational rehabilitation, for students with disabilities still in school.

Topic: Transition and adult life

In plain terms

Pre-ETS include five required activities: job exploration counseling, work-based learning experiences, counseling on postsecondary education options, workplace readiness training, and instruction in self-advocacy. Students with disabilities, including those with a 504 plan, can usually receive Pre-ETS without completing full VR eligibility. Age ranges for "student" are set within federal limits and vary by state.

How it shows up in an IEP

Pre-ETS can supply transition services listed in the IEP and should be coordinated with the school's plans. They are a good fit for students who are not ready to apply for full VR services yet.
