Use built-in read-aloud tools on tests

6-8, 3-5, 9-12OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students with text-to-speech or other embedded tools as testing accommodations who do not use them on computer-based tests. Present levels in tool use during practice tests decide fit.

Baseline
Watch a practice test and record, by section, whether the student used the tools. Ask why they did or did not.
Tips
Practice on the real test platform well before test day. Some students avoid tools in front of peers; plan seating or headphones.
Limits
The template does not measure scores. Tools must be listed as accommodations where required. The AT specialist and team choose the tool from an AT assessment and trial data; the template measures what the student does with it, not the tool's quality.

What the student will do

Something an adult can see, count or time.

When or under what conditions

Support

Support allowed

Criterion

Number of opportunities in which the behavior is demonstrated, out of a fixed number.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Criterion wording

Data collection

An adult observes and records the defined behavior during a specified activity.

How often data are collected

How many measurements must meet the criterion.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during a computer-based practice test or classroom quiz with text-to-speech and other approved tools, the student will turn on the approved tools and use them on items with long text or hard words independently in 4 of 4 opportunities, across 2 consecutive practice tests, as measured by direct observation collected with each practice test.

Baseline: 1 of 4 opportunities.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Assistive Technology Use.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)
