Look up words in a digital dictionary
When to use this goal
For students reading digital text who skip unknown words that block meaning. Present levels in reading and in the tool's lookup feature (definitions, pictures, read-aloud) decide fit.
- Baseline
- Plan five unknown key words in a reading and record whether the student looked them up or skipped them.
- Tips
- Each planned unknown word is one opportunity. Vocabulary growth is measured in vocabulary goals.
- Limits
- Dictionary definitions can be harder than the word. The AT specialist and team choose the tool from an AT assessment and trial data; the template measures what the student does with it, not the tool's quality.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
