Highlight and collect notes with a reading toolbar

9-12, 6-8Work completionTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For high school students who listen to long readings with text-to-speech and need to pull out key information for study, as they will in college. Present levels in text-to-speech use and in finding key ideas decide fit.

Baseline
Track a month of long readings and whether study notes were made. Check note quality informally.
Tips
Count an assignment complete when the exported notes cover each section. Quality can be scored in study skills goals.
Limits
Highlighting too much is common; teach limits. The AT specialist and team choose the tool from an AT assessment and trial data; the template measures what the student does with it, not the tool's quality.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given a long digital reading for a class with a reading toolbar that has highlighters and note collection, the student will listen to the reading, highlight key ideas in set colors, and export the highlights as study notes independently, completing at least 85% of assigned reading assignments with exported study notes, across 4 consecutive weeks, as measured by work-sample analysis collected weekly.

Baseline: 40% of assigned work.
