Put story events in order after listening
When to use this goal
For students who answer questions about single sentences heard and are ready for connected speech, such as a short story. Present levels in sentence comprehension and in story language decide fit.
- Baseline
- Use three stories and score each event placed in the right position. Check the same stories with visual access to separate listening from story skills.
- Tips
- Use new stories each probe at the same length and language level.
- Limits
- Story structure knowledge also affects scores. The template measures listening for a student whose family chose listening as one route; it never replaces sign language or captions the student also uses.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, given a short story of 3 to 5 events read aloud with the reader's face hidden, and picture cards of the events, the student will put the picture cards in the order of the story heard independently with at least 80% accuracy on story events placed in order, in 3 of 4 consecutive weekly probes, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected weekly.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives percent accuracy data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Auditory Skills (Deaf & Hard of Hearing).
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
