Answer questions about a passage heard
When to use this goal
For students who follow short stories by listening and are ready for longer informational passages like those read aloud in class. Present levels in sentence and story comprehension decide passage length.
- Baseline
- Compare listening alone with reading the same passage. A gap points to listening; no gap points to language or content.
- Tips
- Use content from class so practice also helps with learning. Previewing vocabulary is a fair support.
- Limits
- Background knowledge affects answers. The template measures listening for a student whose family chose listening as one route; it never replaces sign language or captions the student also uses.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, given a short informational passage read aloud with the reader's face hidden, followed by 5 questions, the student will answer each question about the passage in speech, sign, or writing independently with at least 80% accuracy on passage questions, in 3 of 4 consecutive biweekly probes, as measured by work-sample analysis collected every two weeks.
Baseline: 40% accuracy.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Percent accuracy fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Work-sample analysis gives percent accuracy data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Auditory Skills (Deaf & Hard of Hearing).
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

- Score only items the student attempted unless the goal defines a fixed set of items. Use the same denominator every session.
- Percent = numerator ÷ denominator × 100. Round to one decimal place.
- Record the support actually provided, even if the goal is independent performance.
