Enter numbers on the numeric keypad

9-12, 6-8Rate (per minute)TemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For older students preparing for jobs with data entry, cash registers, or inventory, who need speed on the numeric keypad. Present levels from timed keypad probes decide the target.

Baseline
Use three 2-minute timings and use the median digits correct per minute. Errors matter at work; note them.
Tips
Use numbers like those in the student's job site. Accuracy is checked before speed is pushed.
Limits
Typing rate varies with the text, the keyboard, and fatigue; keep these the same across probes and compare the student with their own baseline.

Criterion

Count of correct responses per minute on a timed task.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Data collection

A fixed-length timing (for example, 1 or 2 minutes) used to calculate a per-minute rate.

How many measurements must meet the criterion.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, given a printed list of numbers (prices, codes, quantities) and a keyboard with a numeric keypad, during a 2-minute timing (total divided by 2 for the per-minute rate), the student will enter each number with the keypad using the home key position and press enter after each independently at a rate of at least 80 digits correct per minute, in 3 of 4 consecutive biweekly probes, as measured by timed probes collected every two weeks.

Baseline: 40 digits correct per minute.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Rate (per minute) fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Timed probes gives rate (per minute) data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Keyboarding & Computer Access.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?

Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.
