Use a tablet camera to view the board

3-5, 6-8, 9-12OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For students with low vision who cannot use a monocular for long periods or who need to zoom in on board work, slides, or demonstrations. Present levels in tablet use and the team's device choice decide fit.

Baseline
Note five board or slide moments in a week and record whether the student used the tablet, used it after a reminder, or did without. Check the classroom photo policy first.
Tips
Agree a photo plan with teachers and families, since cameras in class raise privacy questions. Screen sharing from the teacher's computer may be simpler for slides.
Limits
Battery life and glare limit tablet use. The template does not measure what the student does with the content afterward.

Support allowed

Criterion

Number of opportunities in which the behavior is demonstrated, out of a fixed number.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Criterion wording

Data collection

An adult observes and records the defined behavior during a specified activity.

How often data are collected

How many measurements must meet the criterion.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during a lesson with notes, slides, or a demonstration at the front of the room, with a tablet and a camera or magnifier app, the student will aim the tablet camera, zoom to read the board or slide, and take a photo of it to review later independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, on 4 of 5 observed days, as measured by direct observation collected twice weekly.

Baseline: 1 of 5 opportunities.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Low Vision & Visual Efficiency.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?
