Use a glare strategy indoors and outdoors
When to use this goal
For students with light sensitivity who squint, stop working, or have headaches in bright light. Present levels from the functional vision assessment and the eye doctor's recommendations decide the tools.
- Baseline
- Record five bright-light transitions and whether the student used a strategy on their own. Ask the student which settings bother them most.
- Tips
- Let the student choose the strategy they prefer. A hat or cap should be allowed indoors when it is part of a glare plan.
- Limits
- Glare tolerance varies with the eye condition and the day. The template does not replace the eye doctor's advice.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, when moving from indoors to bright sunlight, such as at recess, physical education, or dismissal, the student will put on prescribed tinted lenses or a visor, or move to a spot with less glare independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, on 4 of 5 observed days, as measured by direct observation collected twice weekly.

Short-term objectives (optional)
When are objectives required?Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
