Follow the group work expectations during a cooperative task
When to use this goal
For students who take over, leave the group, refuse a role, or use materials alone during cooperative tasks. Scores a short rubric per group activity. Base the choice on 2 or 3 scored activities. Peer conversation and conflict skills are in the social-emotional area.
- Baseline
- Score 3 group activities with the rubric and note which row is lowest. Record the group size and whether roles were assigned; unassigned roles produce more take-over and more leaving. Ask the student which part of group work is hardest.
- Tips
- Assign roles, keep groups small, and give the student a role that uses a strength. Score the rubric right after the activity. If the lowest row is sharing or voice, consider the more specific templates (bh-cls-009, bh-cls-011).
- Limits
- A weekly rubric gives slow data; add a second activity when possible. Group behavior depends on the group; vary the partners and note them.
