Use the raise-hand button before unmuting

K-2, 3-5OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For younger students in live online lessons who unmute and talk over the teacher or classmates, so the lesson stops. Fit depends on observation of live sessions and the student's ability to find the button, not grade. Teach the button with practice before measuring.

Baseline
Record the first five times the student speaks in each of three sessions: raised hand first, or unmuted and spoke. Check that the platform's button is visible on the student's device; tablets often hide it.
Tips
Call on raised hands quickly and by name so the button pays off. If the student cannot use a pointer reliably, a hand held up in view or a chat emoji works the same. This is the online version of bh-cls-001.
Limits
Platforms differ; teach the student's actual platform. A family member's prompting at home can be hard for the teacher to see; ask the family to note it.

Data collection

An adult observes and records the defined behavior during a specified activity.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during a live online lesson when the student wants to speak, the student will use the raise-hand button and wait to be called on before unmuting independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, across 4 consecutive live sessions, as measured by direct observation collected each live session, first 5 times the student speaks.

Baseline: 1 of 5 opportunities.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Classroom Expectations & Routines.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
