Respond with the class during choral response

K-2OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For young students who stay silent, answer late, or call out early during choral responding, so they miss the practice the routine gives. Fit depends on lesson observation and the student's response mode, not grade. Any response mode the class allows counts.

Baseline
Sample 10 choral prompts in one lesson daily for a week and score each: answered on signal, early, late, or not at all. Correctness is a separate question; this goal counts the response on the signal.
Tips
Teach the signal (a hand drop, a snap) and practice it with easy questions first. A student who calls out early may need a longer pause to think; a silent student may need an easy first item. Pair with an academic goal for accuracy.
Limits
Hard to hear one voice in a group; sit close or use response cards. Not a measure of whether the answer was right.

Number of opportunities in which the behavior is demonstrated, out of a fixed number.

An adult observes and records the defined behavior during a specified activity.

How many measurements must meet the criterion.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during a whole-group phonics or math lesson when the teacher signals the class to answer together, the student will say, sign, or hold up the answer with the class on the teacher's signal independently in at least 8 of 10 opportunities, on 4 of 5 observed lessons, as measured by direct observation collected 10 choral prompts in one lesson daily.

Baseline: 3 of 10 opportunities.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Classroom Expectations & Routines.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
