Accept a correction without arguing
When to use this goal
For students who argue, debate, or escalate when an adult corrects their work or behavior. Base the choice on observed corrections. The correction must be delivered privately and briefly for the data to be fair; the template says so in the conditions.
- Baseline
- Record 5 or more corrections and the first response: acknowledged and changed, argued but changed, argued and refused, or escalated. Also record how the correction was delivered (public or private, long or short); public, long corrections produce more arguing and should be changed before judging the student.
- Tips
- Train adults first: one sentence, private, then walk away. Asking to talk later is a success, and the adult must actually follow up. Score the first 30 seconds only. Honor the student's right to disagree respectfully; the goal is accepting the correction in the moment, not agreeing with it. Pair with replacement-behavior bh-rep-015 if denials of requests also trigger arguing.
- Limits
- Only valid when corrections are delivered as the conditions describe. Does not fit a student who is being corrected for behavior that is part of their disability-related support needs; review the plan first.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, when an adult delivers a brief, private correction about work or behavior, the student will independently acknowledge the correction ("okay," a nod, or restating it) and make the change or move on within 30 seconds without arguing in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, across 3 consecutive 2-week data summaries, as measured by direct observation collected each observed correction, summarized every 2 weeks.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
