Report back to the supervisor after each task
When to use this goal
For transition-age students who finish an assigned work task and then wander, wait silently, or start something else without telling the supervisor. Fit depends on job-site observation and the student's communication mode, not grade.
- Baseline
- Record every completed task for three to five shifts: did the student report, wait, wander, or start something unassigned? Note how long the student waited before an adult noticed. If the student cannot tell when a task is finished, teach a finished check first (a photo of the completed task).
- Tips
- Tell the supervisor how the student will report (spoken, text message, card) so the response is consistent. The supervisor's acknowledgment is the natural reinforcer; ask supervisors to give it every time early on. Pair with bh-dir-031 for starting directions.
- Limits
- Counts reporting, not the quality of the finished work. Jobs with long single tasks give few opportunities per shift; summarize across several shifts.

Goal
By the annual IEP review date, when the student finishes a task assigned by the supervisor during a work placement, the student will go to the supervisor, say or show that the task is finished, and ask what to do next independently in at least 5 of 6 opportunities, across 4 consecutive work shifts, as measured by opportunity-by-opportunity data collected every completed task, summarized per shift.

Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.
Met: Condition. Stated.
Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.
Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.
Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.
Met: Method produces the metric. Opportunity (trial) recording gives opportunities data.
Met: Review timeframe. Stated.
Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.
Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Following Adult Directions.
Met: Level of support. Defined.
Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.
Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
Short-term objectives (optional)
When are objectives required?Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.

- Record up to 6 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
