Put the phone away after the phone check

9-12, 6-8OpportunitiesTemplateReview and individualize before use. How templates are made
When to use this goal

For secondary students whose phone use during class is driven by checking messages or the need to stay connected, and whose plan gives a scheduled phone check as the replacement. Fit depends on the plan and the school's phone policy, not grade. Pair with bh-cls-048 when phone use outside the times is counted.

Baseline
Before the check starts, record how often the phone comes out and for what. Then score each scheduled check: phone put away on time, late, or not at all.
Tips
The check must happen on time every time; skipping it breaks trust. Family messages that are truly urgent may need a school-approved route. Let the student help pick the check times.
Limits
School phone policies may limit this plan. Does not measure phone use outside school.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, at the scheduled phone check at the midpoint of a class period, the student will check the phone during the scheduled phone time and put it back in the agreed place when the time ends independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, on 4 of 5 consecutive school days, as measured by direct observation collected each scheduled phone check, summarized weekly.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Replacement Behaviors.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.
