Go to the meeting spot when signaled

When to use this goal

For students on field trips or community outings who keep exploring, hide, or head the wrong way when the group gathers to move on. Fit depends on outing data, not grade. The meeting spot and the signal must be shown to the student at the start of each visit.

Baseline
Record every regroup signal on three outings: arrived directly, arrived after a repeat, needed an adult to fetch them, or headed elsewhere. Time how long arrival took. If the student does not move at all, teach the signal at school first with a short walk.
Tips
Pick a meeting spot that is easy to see and stays the same during a visit (an entrance, a large sign). Teach older students to text "here" when they arrive. Reinforce arriving with a preferred next activity. Safety skills are targeted at every opportunity.
Limits
Outings are infrequent, so mastery comes slowly. The goal does not replace supervision ratios in the outing plan.

An adult observes and records the defined behavior during a specified activity.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, during a community outing when the adult gives the agreed regroup signal (a call, a raised hand, or a text), the student will go straight to the named meeting spot and wait there with the group independently in 4 of 4 opportunities, on 4 consecutive community outings, as measured by direct observation collected every regroup signal on each outing.

Baseline: 2 of 4 opportunities.

  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Safety Behaviors.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.

Short-term objectives (optional)

When are objectives required?

Required for students on alternate assessments (34 CFR §300.320(a)(2)(ii)); some states require them for everyone.
