Build a balanced tray in the lunch line
When to use this goal
For older students who plan balanced meals in class but pick the same one or two items each day in the cafeteria. Present levels, not grade, decide fit. The student chooses their food; the goal measures applying what they planned, not eating it.
- Baseline
- For one week, note the groups on the student's tray each day. Check which options were offered; a day with limited choices should not count against the student.
- Tips
- Each lunch is one opportunity. Score the choices made, not what was eaten or thrown away. Students who bring lunch from home are not a fit unless the family wants to log home-packed choices.
- Limits
- Food preferences, sensory needs, cost, and family practice shape choices; the goal must not override them. Not for students with feeding plans, eating disorder concerns, or medical diets without nurse and family input.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
