Complete assigned reading with a reading log
When to use this goal
For students whose present levels show assigned chapters and articles not read, so they cannot take part in discussion. Reading must be at an accessible level or provided in audio.
- Baseline
- Ask teachers how many assigned readings in the last month the student completed, and verify with quick checks of the log or discussion. Check reading level and access to audio before setting the target; unread work can be an access problem.
- Tips
- Each assigned reading is one opportunity. Met means the log shows pages read and at least one note per section, turned in by the due date. Notes should be short; the log is evidence of reading, not an essay. Spot-check notes against the text.
- Limits
- Logs can be filled in without reading; spot-checks keep the measure honest. Does not measure comprehension; see reading comprehension goals.

Goal

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
