Hand in the exit ticket before leaving
When to use this goal
For students who leave class without finishing the short end-of-class check, so teachers lack data on what they learned. Present levels, not grade, decide whether the ticket is written or oral.
- Baseline
- For two weeks, count exit tickets given and the number handed in with every part answered. Note whether unfinished tickets are blank, partly done, or left on the desk.
- Tips
- Teachers already collect exit tickets, so the stack is the data. Oral answers to the teacher at the door count when writing is the barrier. A one-minute warning before the bell gives time to finish the last part.
- Limits
- Does not score accuracy; the teacher uses the answers for instruction. Classes that run to the bell may leave no time for the ticket; agree on a set time with each teacher.

- Record up to 6 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
