Remain in the circle time area for a set number of minutes
When to use this goal
For young children who leave the circle area within the first minutes of group time. Circle time length and format should match what the class already does. Present levels decide the starting minutes.
- Baseline
- Time from the start of circle to the first time the child leaves the area across at least five days. Note what part of circle the child leaves during (songs, story, waiting turns) and what happens next. Use the median.
- Tips
- Remaining means in the circle area on the spot, with any posture; rocking, lying down, or holding a fidget still counts. The episode ends when the child leaves the area for more than 10 seconds. Record the first episode only and use the same rule each day.
- Limits
- Staying is not attending; a child can stay and not listen. Add a participation measure (responding to a song or question) if that is the need. Circle length varies by day; keep the measured part consistent.
