Copy songs and movements with the group
When to use this goal
For preschool children whose present levels show leaving the group or doing unrelated activities during songs, finger plays, or movement games. Movement activities can be easier entry points to group attention than sitting activities. Present levels decide the starting minutes.
- Baseline
- Time from the start of the music to the first break of 30 seconds or more away from the group activity. Collect at least five days and note the songs used; familiar songs often hold attention longer.
- Tips
- Any form of joining counts: partial movements, humming, signing, or swaying with the group. Children who cover ears may need a quieter volume or a spot farther from the speaker; adjust that first.
- Limits
- Measures time with the group activity only. Noise level and song choice strongly affect young children's results.
