Follow the routine with a substitute or different adult
When to use this goal
For students whose present levels show the day falls apart with a substitute teacher or a new aide. For students with a stable routine that a different adult can run.
- Baseline
- Review what happened on recent substitute days (work done, incidents, refusals) and ask the substitute or a familiar staff member. Planned short periods with a different familiar adult can build data between substitute days.
- Tips
- Each period with a different adult is one opportunity. Met means the routine was followed and the adult's directions were followed without refusal for the period. Prepare a one-page profile for substitutes so the adult's behavior is consistent. Planned swaps with known adults are a fair way to practice.
- Limits
- Substitute days are unpredictable and substitutes vary. The student's response depends partly on how the adult treats them; note that.

- Record up to 5 opportunities per session, matching the goal's denominator.
- Define in advance what counts as an opportunity so every data collector records the same thing.
- Count only + marks toward the criterion unless the goal specifies prompted responses.
