Complete an activity in a different room or location

When to use this goal

For students whose present levels show refusal or distress when an activity happens somewhere new (library instead of classroom, a different therapy room). For students with location-specific routines.

Baseline
Log recent location changes and the student's response. Plan a few short activities in nearby unfamiliar spaces with support to build data. Note whether sensory features of new spaces (lights, echo) drive the reaction; that may call for a different plan.
Tips
Each location change is one opportunity. Met means in the room and taking part within 3 minutes. Previewing with a photo is a low-cost support most teams can provide. Score planned and natural opportunities separately.
Limits
Sensory factors can make some rooms genuinely hard; the goal is not to override them. Opportunities are infrequent without planning.

Something an adult can see, count or time.

Criterion

Number of opportunities in which the behavior is demonstrated, out of a fixed number.

Sample numbers. Replace them with the student's data.

Criterion wording

Data collection

An adult observes and records the defined behavior during a specified activity.

How often data are collected

How many measurements must meet the criterion.

Goal

By the annual IEP review date, when a familiar activity is held in a different room or area than usual, the student will enter the new location and take part in the activity within 3 minutes independently in at least 4 of 5 opportunities, across 5 consecutive opportunities, as measured by direct observation collected each location change and summarized monthly.

Baseline: 1 of 5 opportunities.

Measurability check11 of 11 met
  • Met: Observable behavior. Stated as an action.

  • Met: Condition. Stated.

  • Met: Unit fits the behavior. Opportunities fits this behavior.

  • Met: Explicit criterion. Number and unit stated.

  • Met: Mastery rule and schedule. Both stated.

  • Met: Method produces the metric. Direct observation gives opportunities data.

  • Met: Review timeframe. Stated.

  • Met: Baseline and target compatible. Same unit, change in the right direction.

  • Met: Aligned with area of need. Still about Cognitive Flexibility.

  • Met: Level of support. Defined.

  • Met: Blanks filled in. Nothing left to fill in.

Checks structure and wording only. Whether the goal fits the student is the team's call.
